Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School

Department of Psychiatry

Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care (UBHC), the Department of Psychiatry at Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and the Rutgers Institute for Health, Healthcare Policy and Aging are building a clinical research program in addiction (opioid, alcohol and other substances), and are looking to recruit a tenure-track or tenured faculty member at the Associate or Full Professor level.

We are looking to hire an established and productive researcher with active and grant-funded (e.g., NIDA) research programs related to substance abuse addiction and services and implementation research.  The successful candidate will develop new initiatives that integrate research, training, and specialized substance abuse addiction services.  Successful candidates will be expected to work with researchers, clinicians, and administration at Rutgers, the RWJ Barnabas Health system, and the State of NJ Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services to position Rutgers to be competitive for large systems-impacting grants such as the one described in NIDA’s recent RFA for the HEALing Communities Study: https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/rfa-files/RFA-DA-19-016.html.  Prior experience working on projects of this type, that includes clinical trial design, a services research perspective, health economics, and learning health care system components will be considered a strength.  PhD required.

Successful applicants will benefit from a wide array of resources including: a productive team of experimental psychopathology researchers (e.g., http://ubhc.rutgers.edu/dsr/); the wide range of clinical services at UBHC, including inpatient, partial hospital, outpatient, residential, Department of Corrections programming, therapeutic school and school-based programs that together serve over 75,000 individuals annually; the large RWJ Barnabas Health system that is currently implementing evidence-based opioid addiction interventions in multiple urban and rural areas in NJ; medical, internship, and post-doctoral training programs at UBHC and in the Department of Psychiatry; programs in Psychology, Neuroscience, Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Social Work, Public Health, Genetics, and other departments and schools that offer opportunities for collaboration; the Rutgers Center for Cognitive Science (RuCCS; http://ruccs.rutgers.edu/); the Rutgers-Princeton Center for Computational Cognitive Neuropsychiatry (ccnp.princeton.edu); the Rutgers Brain Health Institute (https://brainhealthinstitute.rutgers.edu/); the Rutgers Center of Alcohol Studies (http://alcoholstudies.rutgers.edu/); a developing Addictions Research Center at Rutgers; active collaborations with the New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the New Jersey Division of Child and Family Services; and competitive support and start-up packages.
