The Monterey County Health Department is recruiting for Contract Physicians in its Behavioral Health Bureaus.  The Monterey County Health Department's mission is to enhance, protect and improve the health and well-being of individuals in Monterey County. The Department provides a wide variety of health services to the health safety net population in the County to ensure that every resident has access to quality, evidence-based health services regardless of ability to pay. 

Psychiatric Medical Director, Behavioral Health (Contract Physician):  The Psychiatric Medical Director is responsible for medical quality assurance and medical management of all clinical programs, provides medical and technical advice to staff and local medical community, supervises medical staff, participates in program planning, liaison with other health professionals in both the public and private sector, and provides education to community members on issues relating to Behavioral Health.  This position will work with the Bureau’s leadership team to ensure that psychiatric services are effective, efficient, and delivered with compassion. The position also provides oversight of other agency prescribers, including psychiatrist (Contract Physicians), Locum Tenens, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and tele psychiatry providers.  Incumbents must hold or be eligible for California Medical Licensure. Incumbents must be board certified or eligible in pediatric or adult psychiatry. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.  Addiction treatment experience is preferred, but not necessary. This position is based in the Salinas office. This position offers a competitive benefit package. 

Psychiatrist, Behavioral Health (Contract Physician):  Monterey County Behavioral Health Department clinics are located in Salinas, Marina, Soledad and King City, and provide behavioral health access, specialty and case management services to children, adolescent and adult individuals in need of help. Monterey County Behavioral Health is recruiting board certified/eligible psychiatrists who are passionate about public/community psychiatry and committed to social justice by addressing the mental health needs of traditionally underserved populations, such as homeless persons, children, adolescents, and immigrants, with moderate to severe mental illness. Positions are available in our inpatient, outpatient and integrated-care primary care settings. The positions involve psychiatric clinical assessment, consultation and treatment of individuals with a wide range of psychopathology, while working in collaboration with a multidisciplinary mental health team of psychiatrists, advance practice non-physician mental health providers, nurses, case managers and social workers.  Weekly clinical team meetings, teaching of residents and medical students, and peer supervision as well as monthly administrative staff meetings are an integral component of these positions. Incumbents must hold or be eligible for California Medical Licensure. Incumbents must be board certified or eligible in pediatric or adult psychiatry. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.  Addiction treatment experience is preferred, but not necessary. Full or part-time candidates will be considered. This position offers a competitive benefit package.
