The William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI ( is a 129-bed facility that provides tertiary medical, surgical, neurological, and psychiatric care, and a full range of outpatient services. This facility serves 130,000 Veterans who live in 15 counties in south-central Wisconsin and in five counties in northwestern Illinois. The Madison VA Hospital is also the specialty care referral center for an additional 57,000 Veterans who reside in the Tomah VA Hospital primary service area, is affiliated with the UW School of Medicine and Public Health, and is physically connected to the UW-Clinical Science Center which includes the UW Hospitals and Clinics, and supports a Vet Center in Madison.

Seeking a full-time Geriatric Psychiatrist to join our growing outpatient Geriatric Psychiatry clinic. This position will work with our geriatric psychiatry team, comprised of social workers, nurses, neuropsychologists and other physicians, to evaluate and treat mental health issues in older adults. Additionally, all geriatric psychiatrists in our facility work closely with our nationally recognized Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center staff.


The Madison VA Hospital enjoys a strong affiliation with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and the Madison VA is the primary training site for the UW Department of Psychiatry Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship. The psychiatrist may choose to teach medical students, residents and fellows and, if the physician has appropriate qualifications, they can receive a faculty appointment in the UW Department of Psychiatry. Research opportunities are also available for qualified applicants. Seeking an enthusiastic, well-trained psychiatrist for a full-time position with our Primary Care- Mental Health Integration team at the Wm. S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital. This position would be a clinical lead with duties divided between program development, patient care and educational programing, including running our nationally recognized inter-professional education program. Our PCMHI team is focused on of team-based, evidence- driven care and we are at the forefront of using outcome measures to ensure the best care for our veterans. Educational and research opportunities are available for qualified applicants. If the physician has appropriate qualifications, they can receive a faculty appointment in the University of Wisconsin Department of Psychiatry.




Seeking an energetic team leader to work as a full-time Inpatient Psychiatrist in our 16-bed hospital facility. Responsibility for psychiatric inpatients is shared between two full-time, inpatient psychiatrists who are supported the unit's nurse manager, pharmacist, two full time social workers and multiple other staff including Occupational Therapists, psychologists, nurses and psychiatry residents. The Madison VA Hospital enjoys a strong affiliation with the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health and our inpatient MDs enjoy teaching medical students, residents and fellows. If the physician has appropriate qualifications, they may receive a faculty appointment in the UW Department of Psychiatry and research opportunities are also available for qualified applicants.   • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia
  • Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification


Work Schedule: Monday - Friday day shift - 1 evening per month.


Recruitment and Relocation Incentives may be authorized for highly qualified candidates.


Salary: $195,000 to $250,000 per year


The incumbent for this position may be eligible to apply for the Education Debt Reduction Program, depending on the type of employment, schedule, amount/type of qualifying debt, and funding availability.
